ballerinas, digital collage and vapor guns

I've resisted the digital playground, maybe because it seems like a galaxy within the galaxy of art. Like I might fall into a black hole and never pick up another paint brush - ha. I have, though, been taking photographs for decades (spent thousands of hours printing my own medium format black & whites in the days before children:) and my fascination with images remains embedded in my creative heart. I've taken a Susan Tuttle (extraordinaire) digital workshop, have a couple of books and adore so much of the work I see, whether it be collage or blog banner. Having a chronic illness does make working on the computer ideal but it took a disabled scanner, sewing machine 'issues' and a major roadblock at the art table for me to play with a couple of images. I am one of those who travel on a path and often freeze when I reach the wide open space. Most unfortunate. It's as though I have visions that I can't quite see, or I've learned enough to be dangerou...

Photoshop fun

I've been a photography buff for more than 20 years, and a longtime photoshop fan - clipping paths, scanning images and painting, smudging and blurring until weeds looked like ethereal flowers.... Since delving into mixed media a few years ago I hesitated to get too far into the computer for my art because.... I guess I was afraid I'd never come out? I see so much fabulous digital collage out there, like Lani's - moderator of the swap group I'm in. Hers rock and then there are Susan Tuttle's inimitable works of art... I did succumb though, and since the pumpkins I have been playing every spare moment. This is a lovely end-of-winter shot from my archives... but I thought, hmmm, wonder what would make it more interesting. So, I applied several of Susan's genius techniques (from Visual Poetry). and came up with this. It might be a bit much - too spotlighty, as if that were a word, but I think I am starting to get the hang of it! My fab friend Wendy took this...

I Got Mine!

One of the (many:) issues of being compulsive is pre-ordering. Of course, what else is one to do when reading about the impending publication of such a delicioso book! I'm a fan of Susan Tuttle's and I have to tell you, I've been carrying this book around for an entire day now only peeking in now and then. I'd like to say that I stayed up until 2 a.m. devouring it, but anyone who knows me would spit out their coffee laughing at that thought. (auto-immune disorder - sleep = no-person's land).  It's like trying to make a candy bar last a reaaalllllyyyyyyy long time. Only a nibble. One of the difficulties is, that she's a great writer, and I want to read it. Savor each page and make it last. What an inspiration. If you click the book photo it will take you to Amazon, where you can look inside and see what I'm talking about. However! Please consider ordering your copy from Jane at Random Arts , or another independent artist working their tush off to make our...
