Warrior? Egyptian Princess? Just plain bizarre? Whatever she appears to be she is close to my heart, one of my most favorite paintings. Adding new techniques, taking workshops and painting every day is the way we grow as artists. My path certainly isn't linear, sometimes it feels like going off on a tangent, then making a sharp right, kind of like those molecular drawings without the science, or the lines connecting them. It is great fun to let go and see what comes of the next, brief stop along the journey. While having a blast, I do feel like my work is all over the place. My husband, Jim Edmon, is a true creative in every sense of the word. An artist since childhood and graphic design warrior for 25 years, he is an illustrator for both stock and clients ( Balance Creative ), and he has a line of greeting cards . He's also a prolific mixed-media artist and was selling paintings at galleries years before I picked up a paint brush. One of the most fascinating qualities about being a creative and living with one is is the approach to an ordinary or basic task. A chronic list-maker, his pages are filled with odd jobs, ideas and his words become secondary to the doodles and sketches.  So, when he decided to build bird feeders I had no idea what to expect. After late nights and long weekends, my husband, Jim, finished his paintings in time for the gallery opening . As with any date in December, the weekend was packed with arts events and it wasn't as populated as previous New Editions Holiday shows . But what do you know, one of the attendees was the art buyer for the University of Kentucky Hospita l . The major renovation includes a mindset that embraces the 'art heals' philosophy; according to Herald-Leader reporter Tom Eblen , UK Hospital is a notable art museum. They continue acquiring works to showcase Kentucky's amazingly talented, diverse artists, the most recent being nine of Jim's 18x18 mixed media pieces! What an honor! My husband, Jim, has been very busy in the studio. Today I finally got to see his latest, just-finished piece (not yet titled) and I'm absolutely in love with it! He manages to incorporate multiple processes and materials and such detail yet it's cohesive and, well, magnificent. A lifelong artist and illustrator, Jim doesn't get to spend a great deal of time in the studio - he's fairly consumed with the graphic design and advertising business. Over the past 25 years, though, I've observed the way he creates - a series of pieces followed by a seemingly 'dormant' period when his creative muse is actually evolving wildly. So, when the opportunity presents itself, he uses a new trick or two and turns out a piece of work that leaves me totally awestruck.
