A Learning I Will Go...

Nothing like learning and exploration to get the creative juices flowing... and now is a good time to step outside the comfort-zone box that was becoming more like quicksand. I can't wait to start the "Altered Fabric Book" online workshop that I'm signed up for - through Creative Workshops.

I wasn't familiar with Nellie Wortman's work but for quite some time I've wanted to use more layers of lace, fabrics and vintage photos - and add book-making to my repertoire. One look at her blog -
Early Morning Thoughts - and I was hooked.

A few years before we were married, Jim gave me a sewing machine for Christmas. I was a bit puzzled; though my mother is a lifelong, expert seamstress, I hadn't done any sewing aside from the very... creative skirt I made in high school home ec class. I learned the basics and used my new toy to make place mats, attaching hand-stitched quilt squares to a backing. I finished three. The remnants of the fourth are tucked away in a basket.

Jim retrieved the boxed-up sewing machine from the basement this morning so I plan to dig up the old quilt scraps for this book class. The idea of mastering the machine is a bit daunting, but a glance at the side-view of one of the many glorious book Nellie made is compelling enough!

There's still time to sign up, so check out the fabulous offerings at Creative Workshops!

I saw this class being offered. I didn't sign up for it because I am so intimidated by the sewing machine, lol. I look forward to reading about how you like the course!
