Photoshop fun

I've been a photography buff for more than 20 years, and a longtime photoshop fan - clipping paths, scanning images and painting, smudging and blurring until weeds looked like ethereal flowers....
Since delving into mixed media a few years ago I hesitated to get too far into the computer for my art because.... I guess I was afraid I'd never come out? I see so much fabulous digital collage out there, like
Lani's - moderator of the swap group I'm in. Hers rock and then there are Susan Tuttle's inimitable works of art... I did succumb though, and since the pumpkins I have been playing every spare moment. This is a lovely end-of-winter shot from my archives... but I thought, hmmm, wonder what would make it more interesting. So, I applied several of Susan's genius techniques (from Visual Poetry).

and came up with this. It might be a bit much - too spotlighty, as if that were a word, but I think I am starting to get the hang of it!

My fab friend Wendy took this photo some years ago up in her homeland (Saskatchewan) and when I came across it in her Flickr stream the first thing I did was ASK permission to play. She said, go right ahead, and I admit I was hesitant because it's perfect just like it is. I have such a thing for old barns, buildings, textures and rust...

and except for the sky, which I'm still messing with (as is Wendy, who is taking the class too!) I think it's really fun.

Take a look at the
Flickr page to see more amazing pieces by the group - I haven't gotten to week four, like many others have (gee, there's a familiar ring to that....), hoping soon! Then I'll start playing with textures. For now, I'd better get upstairs and finish the journal order - due tomorrow!! I'll post photos of them, I have to admit they are some of my most favorite pieces ever!

Beautiful treatments Patti. I'm so glad you liked my picture and requested to use it. I have not had a moment to look at it again but on pausing a moment now to comment, it entered my mind that it would probably benefit from some treatment of week 4 project 1. Take a look and see what you think. I'll leave it to you.
I love the berries photo. At this time of year I always appreciate a touch of red berries.
Hoping to do a post today showing many more of my art everyday month projects, including the studio floor. Thanks for all the good vibes you sent my way.
Angels be with you.

Wonderful.Everytime I see photoshop, I want to learn. Yet I am also afraid if I ever learn, I will forget to use a real brush or ink.

Altering photos can be so much fun. You can then print them and incorporate them into your mixed media projects - with just the right colors that you want!

"A 'Normal' day upon wakening and sitting up to see light from the window to verify 'sun-up' shining on the glass in the window...not long after the very common, familiar, encounter with people, people on television, morning news, Good Morning America. Cell phone rings and beeps in a text message shortly after a 'hello.' Not long and on the street, in a car and thousands of interactions...for hours...with people...so can this be considered 'normal?' It is and it does for every day for the absolute majority of 'people.' Curious, what makes us most happy is the 'simple' forest floor of a new brightly colored mushroom, a meadow with no fences, Blue Birds and Indigo Buntings and more fields of flowers...so much magic and yet there are those who choose to live in amongst millions of confused, emotional, angry hollow people...Many have forgot the language of being alone and in the photos that take our breath...

Hello Patti! I sent you an email a wee while ago, catching you up with my busy life and requesting your friend's address, again. I have been flat tack with work and family (read: job interview, marketing strategies, 19 month old and teething, a house that is constantly in a state of shock because of the mess, lo, and one Pulp Redux project!). Phew, I'm tired just writing about it. Well, anyways, it's not too late to send a card to your friend but I've deleted all my "saved" emails and so have therefore lost the address you sent me. Could you send it to me again pretty please and I'll post in the next couple of days. Also, email me about what you would like me to write in it. There's a good lass!

Hey, your photoshopping looks great! Beautiful shots of winter and decay with those buildings. Love your pumpkins! What fun! I'm just learning about it myself. My friend Pania has just finished a fabulous kitty kong piece - it's on her blog. Very funny.
