Fall Giveaway!

What's your favorite season? Read on, leave a comment and on October 31st I'll pick (randomly, of course) the winner of a seasonal box of goodies.

took a walk the other day and yep, the air had that unmistakable chill, unlike a random cold snap in the summer. the leaves turning, bulbs waiting to be planted and roots going dormant for the winter that are felt more than smelled. unlike the triumphant scents of blossoms carried in the limbs of honeysuckle and rose bushes, mimosas and lilies in spring.

Cats curled in nooks and tight against porch railings; I believe they, too, know it will soon be time to go inside, aside from the daily foray into the bright slant of sun that is another sign of fall.

the pumpkins laugh, already, at the thought of Halloween, a wild night of surprise and celebration in our neighborhood.

the mums almost look out of place, the bright color alongside the browning grass...

autumn and spring are my favorite seasons, though they are the hardest on those of us with auto-immune and other illnesses susceptible to changes in the weather - the thick gauzy summer air and the steady, gray cold of winter mean a more stable barometer and that makes my joints happy. But in spite of the difficulties presented by warm, sun toasted afternoons followed by a crisp plummet into the cold, rainy nights, the sheer beauty of fall is enough. crisp apples, roasting marshmallows over the fire pit, hiking in the bounty of color, cozy afternoon, cup of tea in the window seat and yes, the pumpkins, a reminder to bake three small 2 pound pumpkins for Thanksgiving pie.

I smile every day at the sight of a neighbor's enormous pumpkin, marvel at its sheer size, smooth even color... and know that my kids, although in middle school, will insist that we put out a few of our own. We used to trek to the pumpkin patch in the fall when Alice and Dylan were young enough to marvel at scarecrows, the cider stand and the bumpy ride on the hay wagon out to the field to pick out the exact right ones. This year I'll pick up a few at the corner market... sigh.

So, what is your favorite season? Is it tied in with a holiday or celebration? Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Easter, the 4th of July? Leave a comment with the season and the reason (not entirely necessary) and you'll be entered in the drawing. I'll post the prize in the next couple of weeks, but it will be worthy!

Hi Patti, I just wanted to ask if you have already seen the swap list and made contact to Druga, your swap partner from Poland?
Best, LaWendula

AH I see,Druga has been here already.
Sorry, Patti, I have not read it, because for me this takes time. ;) But now: my favorite season is summer, I don't like fall that much. I like it warm and I like to walk with bare feet as much as I can.
Thanks for joining the paper swap and for this giveaway!

These photographs are just gorgeous -- quintessential fall! I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your sweet, warm and thought-provoking comments. What a gift they were to me:)

I would love to enter your wonderful giveaway. My favorite season by far is autumn -- it makes me feel so alive in every way and engages my senses. I love the colors, smells of decaying leaves and woodsmoke, chill in the air, barren fields and forest dotted with red winterberries, toasty wool sweaters, mittens, scarves, pretty hats, fires in the wood stove, hot cider, candy apples, Halloween, spooky decorations -- Mmmm, did I miss anything?:)

Hey Patti, autumn is, always has been and always will be my favorite, i think! it delights every one of my senses, and every day of it has visible change happening - it's never around long enough to get bored with, that's for sure! from the gorgeous autumnal colors cast against those crisp blue skies (missing for several days now, behind those bitter wet clouds!), the sound of leaves as they crunch and the scent as they break down and decay, along with the various nuts and pine needles that fall - our yard is carpeted and lumpy with acorns and pine cones - love those earthy notes. The smells and tastes of apples, and warm spices of clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon mingling, that bring the apples to life in baking or hot cider. Getting to pull out the soft blankets, and cozy sweaters, and worn jeans after living in as little clothing as possible to stay cool for months - love that! Yup, it's my happiest sensory season, but you're right. it's much harder to enjoy with the deep aches and fatigue the barometric and thermo changes trigger. I live more in memory than present on this one - and your wonderful words and photos help bring it all right to the surface for me - thanks!!
gee, did i blab enough?!

I love fall. Why? Because it's my birthday month (it's today actually), great walking weather, wonderful colours, no snow (at least not here yet) and it always signified the beginning - of school, of night school classes, and the quilt guild meetings. Loads of inspiration.

I love Spring. To me it's a time of renewal, for everything, myself included.
Nature begins to re-awaken, animal babies soon to be born.
For me, springtime signifies life anew.

ugh! i just wrote you a novel and blogger deleted it!!

the short summery: my favorite times of year are spring and autumn due to the ends of the rain and the new beginning of rain, once it's refreshing and not old, the death and rebirth of things, the sprouting of new buds and rustling of dead leaves. i love halloween, the refreshing chill after a hot summer, the leaves again, the costumes and real meanings and origins of "halloween", etc. not so big into the candy or anything like that, but halloween is my favorite holiday.

Summer is my favourite season - long days, bright skies and bare feet!
I don't have a favorite season. I just try to experience each one for what it is. They all have something different and rather special to offer. I just try to embrace the season as it is happening!

Hi Patti!
My favorite season is spring. I can get "down" in the winter and just when I feel I can't take it any longer, spring arrives. I love the renewal of spring- the buds on trees, the message of Easter, opening my windows for the first time and enjoying the fresh air, the spring flowers, and of course Tball for Lawson! It lifts my soul and just makes me happier overall!

I have to say that my all time my favorite season is Summer. Suntanning, pools, and beaches. Great to sit outside at night and take the family camping.

Oh....I am already missing it horribly.

For me, Patti, it is Fall (we call it Autumn down under). I love it because of the fallign leaves, which we try and catch individually as they fall, to make a wish for the year ahead. I love it, because there is no pollen in the air...(arrtichoo!), and because I can go for long walks without getting too hot. I like it because pumpkin soup is my favourite dish, and because my son was born in Autumn...

I love spring - the longer warmer days, trees dressed in bright new green leaves, scents of new blossoms and bulbs, playful baby lambs, daring to go on picnics in changable weather, and knowing that we made it through another winter and summer is coming.

I so enjoy following your blog Patti. Your words and art inspire, encourage and challenge me :)

Hi Patti,

I have posted about your giveaway!! Go check it out and have a great day!

:)Marilyn
Hi Patti,
I saw the giveaway notice on Marilyn's Summer Gypsy Blog, so I moseyed on over to see what's happening. My very favorite time of year is Indian Summer in the fall. I relish the bold, luscious colors of the leaves when at their peak. I also love the comfortable days, the cool nights--sleeping so well with the window open in the bedroom. I love the huge puffy billowy cumulus clouds so white against the blue of the sky with the trees all dressed in their complimentary colors of scarlet reds, oranges, golds, russets, and various shades of green. The smell in the air is particular, and reminds me of when I played "hide and seek" as a child before supper, going inside with a ravishing appetite and red rosy cheeks. For sure, the Fall is my very favorite time of the year. Hoping to win your bag of seasonal goodies!!

Ahhh, my favourite season. In truth there is so much beauty in every season. If I pause to contemplate for any content of time, this is a very difficult question to answer. I love Christmas and the hoarfrost, heavy mistiness of some winter days and yet cool crisp chill of others. Summer brings so much beauty in the multi hues of green as well as flowers both tame and wild. Spring, brave spring is all about new life, birth, rebirth. So hard to decide. But as we are in the richness of autumn - for this moment I will choose autumn. I love the smells of apples and cinnamon. I love the textures and colours of warm woolen sweaters and mittens. I love the patterns and layers. Yes, for this moment in time, I will say my favourite season is autumn.

Thank you for the autumn pictures.
Thank you for offering this lovely give away. I can't even remember what I read many hours ago that the prize is, : ) but regardless, you are giving of your heart to each and every one of us. Angels be with you.

thanks so much for visiting my blog again, i haven't been feeling much like visiting lately, felt very blue! my favourite is spring (although i love autumn colours), when the daffodils spring out of the ground, when the baby lambs spring and frolic, and when i feel a spring in my step. hugs from london.
For me, it will always be Autumn . . . After the opulence and lassitude of Summer, Autumn is the season that forces us to contemplate our purpose and our mortality; to realize that nothing is permanent, that everything does and must change, and that as Dylan Thomas said, 'Our ground time here will be brief.' This is the fuel that warms the fires of Winter introspection, delivering us once again to the birth rites of Spring, justly humbled, and ready to praise all that is. But for poets and artists and writers, it begins, I believe, with our descent into that personal hell . . .
What a wonderful post and the photos were fantastic.
Without a doubt my favorite time of the year is fall and my favorite holiday is Halloween.

Autumn and spring are my favourite seasons too. Spring for the new life and renewal of energy, the increasing day light hours and feelings of optimism after a long cold winter...
Autumn most of all, for the colours, the berries, nuts, crisp clean air. The trees take on a life of their own and inspire me so much. The birds migrating. So much to love about Autumn.

Good morning. Karin led me here and I am glad that she did.

I love everything about fall, the whole thing. But mostly I love how the seasons change and that fall makes me cuddle under the blankets just a wee bit more.
